This post is about how I do MY personal history. I am a little OCD about it. I can't decide if that's good or bad. Maybe both? Anyway, I have shared with family and friends that I do my big yearly scrapbook through Burb. You would be surprised with how many people ask me what I use, and how to use it! This post is solely for the family scrapbook. They have other options on blurb for cookbooks, baby books, magazines, etc. So I'm hoping this post will help! I'm not an expert on everything blurb can do, but I have a good feel of how to use it. So here it goes!
WHY I USE BLURB
I love Blurb, because I can put a lot (and I mean, A LOT) of pictures in one book, without it getting too expensive! The layouts and embellishments aren't fancy, but that is not what I'm going for. I just want our lives to be documented. And even still, the pages are still nice, and the book is fun to look at. I can customize it to how I want, without spending too much time on it. The best time to purchase your blurb book is when they have a sale (obvi), so I usually purchase mine when they have a 25% or 30% off sale. That makes it a lot more affordable!

DOWNLOAD
Again, this is just how I do it, so if something else suits your fancy, then great! But for now we're going to focus on this way. For whatever reason, blurb does not have the book version I use under their family portrait download anymore. I did download the bookwright version, and there weren't nearly as many options in customizing. So, if you want what I use, (and I think you might), you have to use the search tool on their website. Go to blurb.com Search, "booksmart download". The download should then pop up in the search. Download it, finish it up, and then get started on your book! Also, I believe you can sync your books through all versions... Not totally sure, but for example, if you started making a book with bookwright, you should be able to convert it to the booksmart version, using booksmart.

When you pull it up, it should look something like this (I've lost my blogging touch and can't figure out how to rotate the pic):
CREATING YOUR BOOK
The first thing you'll want to do is upload some pictures. Once you've got them uploaded, then make sure you have the "picture layout" selected

This will have all of the options that you can use to place your pictures. The good news? You can switch it up! I do this a lot. Sometimes there are like 4 pictures I want on one page, and I want a good sized text box to talk about those pictures. How do you do that? I'll show you!
Click "Edit Layout". It will bring to the 'gray page'. From there, you can change any of the layouts, add picture boxes, remove picture boxes, text boxes, header, footer.

Once you have your layout how you want, you can save the layout. I would recommend doing so, as you will probably use it again. Just nice to have more options.
I like to have the same backgrounds on all of the pages that have pictures from the same event or whatever. To customize your background, you click on "backgrounds".
From there, you can change the background to any solid color, or you can select the background options that they have, and then change the colors of that to any colors you want.
At some point, if you run out of pages, as all books come with 20 pages to start, you can add more! And I think the limit is around 450 pages per book, so add, add away!
I have not used ornaments much, or the themes. I try to just keep things simple as I know I have a lot of pictures to add to each book, and don't want to spend much time on making them look pretty as I do to get the story of the pictures in there. But that's me!
Here are all of the books I've done using blurb! I have also used shutterfly, but mostly for special occasion type stuff!
My first book I made through blurb, I selected the fold over option or something. But I like the "image wrap option". It doesn't have a cover that comes off, it is just the hardcover of the book if that makes sense.
Here are some of my pages.
I hope this helped you on your personal history endeavor! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I am happy to help! Thanks so much for reading!
Disclaimer: I'm not getting paid by blurb to write this post. Just a friendly tip on scrapbooks :)
